My Favorite Things About School: Live Lessons

Live Lessons

I really miss recess. Playing with all the kids was so much fun. It's the only reason I ever wanted to go to school. I learn online now. Mom and I have tons of fun but it's not the same as a playground.

I really hated going to school. I was always in trouble even if I didn't mean to be. I don't really like school now because it is hard to read things but it is so much better now. My teachers always tell me I am doing good.

I really like the live lessons where my class meets with my teacher. Mrs. Vazquez is the nicest teacher I have had yet. Her lessons are always so much fun. I get extra lessons too because I need help.  Some of my classmates have been in the same class together with me for all three years. Everyone in my class is really serious about learning things. I have seen some kids in other classes mess around but our class is not like that and everyone is really smart. Teacher never has to tell us to behave. I don't talk on my headset much because it makes too much noise but lots of other kids do. Sometimes the teacher lets us draw or use the pointer on the board for the whole class. It is so much more fun than a regular class even though we are not in the same room. I get to answer every single question and no one picks on me when I raise my hand or get the answer wrong. Everyone is excited when someone answers a really hard question. We even play games. Once my name was in a test we took during a lesson. Live lessons are one of the best parts of Connections Academy.

Wait until you hear about robotics club.

Project Christmas Spirit: Tree Topper

The top of the tree is the most important  part. We used star ornaments, that I made, last year. This year I found the perfect tree topper. My santa hat. The top of our tree is a little crooked from being in the box. The hat hides that part and is so cool.

  3. Pull out all our decorations
  4. Make gingerbread cookies
  5. Make sugar cookies
  6. Build our Christmas cottage

Dec 17: The Santa Clause

Spoiler Alert
Christmas Movie Countdown

The Santa Clause Poster

This is a really funny movie. It's about Scott Calvin who accidentally kills Santa Claus and puts on his clothes and delivers the presents. He finds out that he agreed to be Santa Claus when he did that. At first he doesn't want to and he is really funny when he is turning into Santa. He decides to try it and his son's family thinks that he is insane and make it so he can't see him anymore. In the end he makes everyone believe and he is happy.

I think being Santa made him more happy than what he did before. We should do what makes up happy and we will do it better.

My Favorite Things About School: First In Math

After Summer we named the blog "Making School Fun," but I never talk about school. I want to say some things I think are fun about school

First In Math

This is the math club at my school. It is a national program. Lots of schools do it. My old school didn't, not in my grade. Connections lets all students do it. This is my third year and it is so much fun. We play math games that teach us about math facts. We collect stickers for our scores. My favorite are the practice gyms. The more or less number line game and the shapes patterns games are awesome too.

We can track our ranks too. I am 80 out of more than 300 students on my school's teams and number 12 in my grade. I really like being good at something. I really want to get more stickers and help my team get a better rank.

Dec 16: The Year Without a Santa Claus

Spoiler Alert
Christmas Movie Countdown

The Year Without a Santa Claus Poster

In this movie Santa has a cold. He thinks that there is no Christmas Spirit left so he decides to take the year off. He doesn't think anyone will notice. Mrs. Claus sends two elves south to find some spirit to cheer up Santa. Because they all fix it so it snows where it never snows people start believing again and children all over the world send Santa letters and Christmas gifts. He is so happy that his cold goes away and he delivers Christmas gifts.

I really liked Snow and Heat Misers. I think this movie shows we should always do what we know is right even though it seems like no one else cares.

Dec 15: Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

Spoiler Alert
 Christmas Movie Countdown

Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town
This is my favorite Christmas movie. My stuffed penguin Topper is named after this movie. It tells the story of an orphan who gets raised by the Kringle elf family. They used to be toy makers and they teach Kris all about it. When he grew up he took their toys to town but their was a mean mayor who didn't like toys. Kris does all kinds of tricky things to hide the toys from him. The story tells why Santa wears red and has flying reindeer and lives at the North Pole.

No matter what, Kris didn't give up. You are supposed to follow rules even if you don't think they are good rules so that was kind of naughty but I think he did a good thing.

Dec 14: The Grinch

Spoiler Alert

Christmas Movie Countdown

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Add caption

Last night I saw the Grinch movie. I thought it would be more like the book Mom reads to me. I really like Jim Carrey.

In this story you see how The Grinch comes to Whoville. People weren't very nice to him.  It got really good when he stole Christmas and his heart grew.

I think people should be nice to each other. I would be mean too, if I were The Grinch.

Project Christmas Spirit: Day 2

We baked Gingerbread cookies tonight. Now I know why Santa has a big stomach. Mom didn't get any of the first batch. We made the mix and rolled the dough out. We used the cookie cutters Granny gave me to make shapes. We had Santa and a sleigh and reindeer. An angel and a Christmas star. Mom found a gingerbread man too. After we cut the cookies out I put sprinkles on them. They were so cool.

  1. Decorate our tree
  2. Find all the Christmas stuffed animals
  3. Pull out all our decorations
  4. Make gingerbread cookies
  5. Make sugar cookies
  6. Build our Christmas cottage
  7. Make Katie and Buckie's stocking
  8. Hang the stockings
  9. Decorate outside

My Baby Daddy!

I made a fun E-card for my dad. You upload your own pictures and then turn someone into a baby Santa Claus. He moves around and drinks milk and stuff. Mom says I can't post a link to the video here. Here are some pictures from it. My favorite part was when baby daddy dances. You can make one of your own at http://www.americangreetings.com/channel/huggies

Dec 9: The Dog Who Saved Christmas!

 spoiler alert

Lian's Christmas Movie Countdown

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dog_Who_Saved_Christmas

This is about a dog named Zeus who gets adopted from the shelter. He used to be a police dog. He had to quit because he stopped being able to bark. The mom of the family that adopts him would rather have an alarm than a watch dog that can't bark.

Just before Christmas the dog catches bad guys trying to steal everything. They had been robbing houses all over the street. He learns to bark again and he saved Christmas for everyone. Everyone is happy.

Zeus learned that just because you did something wrong doesn't mean you are bad. That is hard to know, I think.

Veggie Tales Saint Nicholas

Preview
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/518Z%2BjP03LL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

This was a really fun movie. It was two stories. The first was about a carrot whose truck broke down and he couldn't pay to get it fixed and so he was going to miss Christmas. Bob the Tomato told the story of Saint Nicholas who learned to give because God made him happy. Bob's story made everyone in town want to help the carrot and they fixed his truck and decorated his house and gave him a Christmas tree for his family.

My favorite part was when everybody fell into the cart and the sheep got caught up in and it slid in the snow and looked like Santa and his reindeer flying. I learned that giving a present can make you just as happy as getting one. But I think it's more fun to get one.

December 1: ELF

Lian's Christmas Movie Countdown: December 1

Spoiler Alert

Elf Poster
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319343/

I saw ELF. It was really good. It was a story about a orphan baby named Buddy that snuck into Santa's bag and ended up at the North Pole. He was raised to be an elf even though he was much bigger than they were.He wasn't good at being an elf and his adopted dad told him his real dad lived in New York. He met a pretty girl and found out he had a brother. He wasn't good at being a human either so he left. Right then Santa was going by and his sleigh broke because no one believed in him anymore. Buddy tried to fix the motor and Buddy's brother and girl friend tried to make everyone believe. Because of Buddy people had Christmas Spirit and Christmas was saved.

Elf is a really funny movie. Buddy didn't fit in but he still did things his way. I would probably try to be like everyone else if I could.  My favorite part was the snowball fight.

Santa Knows My Name!

Last night I got a video message from Santa. He knew my name. He knew about Thanksgiving. He even knew about my science experiments. He said I have been doing a better job at keeping my temper this year. I thought it was fake because Mom can do stuff like that but he knew my name! That was so cool. He even knows what I really want for Christmas but I haven't sent him my letter yet! This is going to be a great holiday!! Guess what? I am on the nice list. Mom says it's because I try real hard.

You can ask Santa for a video too. Get your mom to help you. http://www.portablenorthpole.tv/home

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend

Yesterday we had Thanksgiving dinner with my family. There were lots of people there I haven't seen in a long time. I had such a great time. We carpooled with Aunt Deb. I played with my uncles drums and I felt like a rock star. I ate turkey and ham and mashed potatoes. I tried chocolate pie for the first time. I can't wait to see them all again.

Super Star!

Today in the mail I got a letter from my teacher. I got  a Super Star award for reading. I am still not good at it. I have special classes at school to help me. My school has the Book It program. I didn't read as many books as I wanted to but I tried really hard. I think that is why she gave me the award. I got stickers too. An award, free pizza and stickers. This is the best day ever!!

Thank You so much Mrs. V! :)

I won!

Mom just got an email from Education.com. We won the Fall Great Start Challenge. It's a gift card. That is so cool. We do the challenges anyway because they are great. It is so neat to actually win something. This challenge was different from the one over the summer. For this challenge we had a bunch of activity pages to complete. They were really fun.

You can see some the fun we had with the Summer challenge here, Education.com Challenge Page

My Art Is An Album Cover!

Daddy finished an EP, of new songs, written for a baby who is sick and in the hospital. The cover is a picture I made for Connection's yearbook contest, the back is called English Garden Before Dawn.

Calm is the Sea is my new favorite song. It's been on my MP3 list for awhile. His music makes me feel connected to everything. I am excited that everyone else can hear it now too.

Halloween Fun

I am sorry I haven't kept up with this once school started. School is a lot harder this year and I have been super busy.

I had so much fun for Halloween. We went to RCC for Halloween Town. I entered the costume contest as The Pumpkin Thief and jumped in the bounce houses. My favorite part was getting my face painted by Candy the Clown. She is nice. She paints faces for the tail gate parties too.

The clubs handed out lots of  candy. My favorite were the one with the plasma ball with lighting that followed my fingers and the huge operation game that we had to reach into to get candy. Mom's camera is broke so we don't have a lot of good pictures though.

I loved it when he said "Lian as The Pumpkin Thief"

For Halloween I was a businessman and I wore my gentleman clothes. Mom found me a briefcase and I collected candy in it. There were so many creepy houses but I loved the ones with a graveyard and fog.

Summers Greatest Hits: Rain

Everyone on the east coast got rained on by hurricane Irene. It was a big deal. Rain was a big deal for me this summer too. At the end of July we had a rain storm. It hardly rains here. I love the sound rain makes when it falls. This storm had lots of thunder too. It set off the car alarms. It woke me up really early. It was one of my favorite days.

Mount Vesuvius Day

Today is a day to remember the eruptions of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Close to 7000 people were killed when it erupted in 79AD and again in 1631.It is sad that people died, but volcanoes are so neat. My school has neat on line resources about volcanoes but my favorite thing is my baking soda volcano. We use equal parts baking soda and vinegar. To get the red color we add a few drops of food color.
